Yevgen Sukharenko
Senior Full-Stack & Frontend Engineer - React / Next.js / TypeScript / Node.js
Senior full-stack engineer with 30+ years building for the web, the last decade and more on high-traffic, SEO-critical applications in React, Next.js and TypeScript, with equal ownership of the back end and the infrastructure. Deep specialisation in server-side rendering, Core Web Vitals and technical SEO; led technical SEO and front-end performance for The Athletic (The New York Times).
I ship my own products end to end, solo: architecture, implementation, deployment and monitoring. Red Sea Creatures is a marine-life platform with a photo-identification service of its own, published iOS and Android apps, and self-hosted infrastructure - zero-downtime rolling deploys, multi-layer caching across Redis, ISR and the Cloudflare edge, health checks and post-deploy smoke tests.
Native mobile is part of the job, not adjacent to it: Swift and SwiftUI on iOS - including App Clips, widgets, share and iMessage extensions and StoreKit 2 - and Kotlin with Jetpack Compose on Android, both live in the stores against the same API as the web. 10+ years of team lead and tech lead experience across distributed teams.
Work Experience
CTO / Senior Full Stack Developer
US classifieds platform for the Ukrainian diaspora. Sole technical owner: architecture, back-end, front-end, mobile apps, admin/CRM, infrastructure and DevOps.
- Integrated Stripe end to end as the production payment stack - Elements checkout, webhooks, subscriptions and payment-state reconciliation - so raw card data never reaches application servers, keeping the platform eligible for PCI DSS SAQ A
- Built AI-powered bilingual listings with a caching layer that auto-translates user content between Ukrainian/Russian and English, cutting per-listing translation cost to near zero
- Shipped a React Native client for iOS and Android on the same backend as the website, with in-app Stripe PaymentSheet, push notifications, and scripted App Store Connect / Google Play release pipelines
- Added voice dictation feeding an AI parser to the posting form, so a seller describes an item aloud in Ukrainian or English and the listing fields come back filled
- Built the user-generated content moderation workflow - review queue, listing takedown, account actions - alongside a real-time admin analytics dashboard
- Implemented US sales tax per jurisdiction as its own tested subsystem, plus DB-backed feature flags with an admin UI
- Implemented dual authentication over the shared stack (NextAuth sessions for web, JWT for the mobile client) and set up CI/CD via GitHub Actions with media on AWS S3 and CloudFront
- Owned technical SEO end to end - Schema.org, XML sitemaps, canonicals, redirects and Core Web Vitals - monitored in Google Search Console to keep listings discoverable in organic search
Senior Full Stack Developer
Software development company. Front-end and full back-end/architecture delivery for international clients in sports media and EdTech/VR.
The Athletic (The New York Times) - technical SEO & front-end performance
- Owned technical SEO for one of the largest subscription sports-media platforms in the US - implemented Schema.org structured data (JSON-LD) across article, video and entity page types so stories, videos and key entities surfaced correctly in search and rich results, tracked in Google Search Console
- Rebuilt crawling and indexing strategy - XML sitemaps, canonical and metadata handling, semantic markup and migration redirect maps - consolidating ranking signals and clearing duplicate and broken URLs from coverage reports
- Diagnosed and eliminated Next.js / React SSR hydration mismatches causing layout shift and inconsistent server output - a recurring class of defect spanning multiple shared page templates, previously reproducible only in production
- Improved Core Web Vitals across article and video templates, resolving the LCP and CLS regressions surfaced in mobile field data
- Instrumented Datadog RUM with custom context and Session Replay, turning hard-to-reproduce hydration and runtime errors into alertable events with full session context
Greenpill Technologies - VR learning platform (back-end & architecture)
- Designed and built the entire server-side and system architecture for a VR education platform
- Implemented real-time session control and signalling over WebSockets with the Janus WebRTC media server, letting teachers control and monitor student sessions live
- Built the data layer in Prisma and MySQL, shaped around live session state
- Containerised all services with Docker for reproducible deployment

Own Products
redseacreatures.com
Founder, architect and sole developer since 2023 - web, iOS, Android and infrastructure. A marine-life platform for the Red Sea with its own photo-identification service, published mobile apps, and self-hosted production. Most of the underwater photography is my own.
- Built FishID, photo identification against 1,337 species from 10,646 Red Sea photographs, as its own recognition service - dataset shipped as a versioned artefact that updates production without a deploy or migration, decoy classes so a photo that is not a Red Sea fish is refused rather than misidentified, and a single entitlement function resolving admin grants, credit packs, subscriptions, Stripe and Apple/Google in-app purchases
- Extended FishID to video on iOS: scene detection with sharpest-frame selection by variance of the Laplacian, and HDR tone-mapping, so a fish is identified from a shaky dive clip
- Migrated the live public site from client-side rendering to React Server Components with isolated client islands - dive-site page HTML fell from 632 KB to 188 KB, worst cases 2.6 MB to 274 KB
- Raised mobile Lighthouse across every major template (home 65 to 93, dive sites 71 to 90, dive centres 78 to 92), with LCP on the worst pages down from 7.2s to 3.8s and blog CLS from 0.247 to 0
- Moved HTML and image delivery to a Cloudflare CDN with automatic cache invalidation on content change, cutting TTFB from ~1.3s to ~20ms; built a responsive WebP pipeline that cut LCP image weight threefold and removed 136 competing preload requests on a single page
- Shipped native iOS and Android clients with an offline-capable catalogue - both cleared App Store and Google Play review and run in production - including an App Clip, home and lock-screen widgets, an iMessage extension and a share extension that sends a photo to FishID straight from the gallery
- Made the iOS app universal across iPhone, iPad and Apple silicon Mac, with a layout that switches between tab bar and sidebar by measured width, plus Handoff and universal links tying it to the website
- Automated store releases against the App Store Connect and Google Play APIs - versions, localised release notes, builds and submission - each step dry-run by default and refusing to run on a version mismatch
- Replaced SQL pattern matching, which degraded as the catalogue grew, with full-text search for fast fuzzy species lookup, then migrated it off the end-of-life Sphinx 2.2.11 onto Manticore 29 - rewriting the client onto SphinxQL first so the client swap and the engine swap stayed independently revertible, and proving the result with a differential harness that asked both engines the same 27 queries and diffed the returned ids
- Zero-downtime releases via a Docker Swarm stack with start-first, health-gated rolling updates deployed by immutable image digest, after a tag-based deploy silently rolled out nothing and left production on stale code
- Multi-layer caching - Redis, Next.js ISR, and Cloudflare edge purges behind one invalidation path
- Health probe over MySQL, Redis and the search engine, used both as the Swarm health gate and by an automated post-deploy smoke test
- Built a TypeScript analytics ingestion pipeline against the App Store Connect Reports API - ES256 JWT signing, paginated report discovery, gzipped TSV parsing, idempotent daily sync with a 3-day reprocess window
